Maia’s long battle to get children custody

Although singer and song writer Maia Estianty has won custody rights over her three children from her former husband musician Ahmad Dhani in the South Jakarta Religious Court and the Jakarta High Religious Court, she could not directly hug the children as Dhani reportedly appealed the case to the Supreme Court.

“Although I won the case twice, I never get my children back. I’m very disappointed. But, it’s Dhani’s rights to appeal. I let my lawyers handle the case,” Maia was quoted by kapanlagi.com on Tuesday.

In the meantime, Maia hoped that Dhani, the leader of pop-rock band Dewa 19, would let her meet the boys: Ahmad Al Gazali, El Jalaluddin Rumi, and Ahmad Abdul Qodir Jaelani.

The boys, popular with their initials Al, El and Dul, with the help of their father have set up a band called the Lucky Laki and released a single Aku Bukanlah Superman (I’m Not a Superman).

“I miss my boys. I never meet them for months. At least Dhani would let them stay in my house twice a week,” the 34-year-old singer said.

She revealed that she already prepared a bedroom for her children in her new house in Pejaten area, South Jakarta. “They can try the swimming pool which is as big as in Dhani’s house.”

In September 2008, the South Jakarta Religious Court approved the divorce lawsuit filled by Maia against Dhani.

The court also decided that the custody rights was given to the mother. Dhani appealed the decision on the custody to the Jakarta Religious High Court. But the court also rejected Dhani’s appeal.
