Weather Agency Warns of Big Winds and Waves for Java Sea and Bali Strait

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in Banyuwangi, East Java, has warned ship operators and fishermen to be on high alert for bad weather on the Java Sea and Bali Strait.

High waves and strong winds are predicted in the area for the next three days.

The waves in the Bali Strait and Java Sea reached three meters to four meters and the wind speed was 20 knots, or 46 km per hour.

The agency’s technical head Mawardi told Metro TV that based on satellite images, the wild sea weather was caused by a strong shift of high pressured wind from Australia to the north of the equator. The agency warned seamen and fishermen to consider delaying sea travel for the next three days. It also said heavy rainstorms are expected, which could limit visibility.
